The American Institute of Stress estimates that 75-95% of visits to doctors can be attributed to bodily stress. Continual stress blocks the body’s natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself, and the effects of unresolved stress range from minor aches to major health concerns such as heart disease, cancer, digestive disorders, depression, respiratory and skin problems.
A major cause of stress is that our world has become increasingly toxic. There are toxins in the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, in our workplaces and in our homes. There are also “inner” toxins. We experience toxic effects from negative thoughts and emotions about ourselves, others and the world. We create toxicity in our bodies by not expressing emotions in a healthy way.
We do have some level of control over the level of toxicity in our environment. The words you speak, the music you listen to, the television you watch, the materials you read all have an effect on your consciousness, and thus your energy and your state of health and wellness. You most likely have heard “garbage in…garbage out”. Conversely, if we read, speak, watch and listen to loving, peaceful, joyful, hopeful messages, we create those conditions in our life. That doesn’t mean we will never have challenges. It means that when challenges arise, we are more likely to meet them with loving, peaceful, joyful, hopeful attitudes.
